Older Americans flock to give in response to tax incentives Americans older than 70½ have a onetime opportunity to give donations up to $100,000 tax free. Bob Edgerton phoned Nonviolent Peaceforce in December to say he was giving a “magnificently generous” donation to NP using this incentive. “We know that giving to the Nonviolent Peaceforce is a very good use for this money. We have a special attitude toward NP. There is something special about NP and the projects that they are working on.” “Our gift is a seed. NP does not have a long history and it is a critical innovation going on in the world. It's a seed that is ready to grow rapidly and needs to be launched. It has a lot of potential.” Bob's wife, Elizabeth Lowe Edgerton, is in full support. “NP is so closely aligned to our family's core values in an action form,” Elizabeth said. “The first time we went to a Nonviolent Peaceforce event we immediately felt enthusiastic to be supporting its work. It's Bob's IRA, and I am delighted with his decision to support NP!” |
